I Live in Humboldt And I Litterally Know Nothing About Our Rap Scene. (1)

This is going to be more of a blog post rather than my normal article formats because I don't have anything else to write about because all of my interviews are pending formatting and just responses. So why not write about what I am working right now?

This mainly started out when Lost Coast Outpost posted the City Hippie music video and I had a moment of clarity that oh yea, musicians exist in Humboldt. Near me. Challenging the fact that I've been mainly reaching out to artists who are VERY far away from me. (Shout out Dejected).

While this has been like pulling teeth to be able to find anyone to get into contact with, which usually ends up with no responses and dead ends with dead accounts. I have come to realize that a lot of these people don't use Facebook, the main platform that I work on to find record labels and Offical Artist Pages. Excruciating, yes, but not completely debilitating to the efforts I am going forthwith. So recently I have found myself on Instagram, constantly, searching for these artists. That is when I also realized that a lot of these rappers were C- quality at best. But, many start out as C-minuses, and end up as A Pluses later down the road. So who am I to judge? Oh wait, it's my job.

I do find these blog posts rather refreshing thought, it is like a ramble to myself so that I don't dump this conversation on someone who knows nothing about my website or what I am doing with my life, to which when I tell them these things they give me a blank look of confusion, smile, and change the topic to something relevant like why Registration is so expensive in California.

So far the best luck I have had with finding these artists that don't make me want to pull my hair out is from music videos, which leads to the biggest problem I have been having as of late; they don't check their emails. I don't want to be 'unprofessional' and send DM's on Instagram that they will take one look at and think it is spam. But I am getting to the point where I might start, as it seems to always get the best results in the long run when I am having trouble getting responses from them via email.

The other thing I foresee being a problem as I do my research is that a lot of these shows are 21+. Sadly, I am not part of the age of 21 party. While I have gotten into 21+ shows fro media before, it was with a good connection to the hosts of the event.

But hey, what's the worse that can happen? It be like Humboldt's Metal Scene?

  1. The Last Artful, Dodgr used to live in Humboldt, and she's pretty A-list at the moment.
